Veteran Lancaster air crew share their vivid memories of night raids over Germany and aerial combat with Luftwaffe interceptors, offering a vivid sight into what it must have been like to fly, night after night, on some of the most dangerous missions of the entire war. Rising out of the disastrous Manchester bomber project, the Lancaster proved to be the most powerful weapon in Bomber Command's arsenal and played a major role in the destruction of the Nazi war machine.
Dramatic footage from both night and daylight raids includes rare colour film. The attacks by Lancasters on the Tirpitz, and the supposedly impregnable U-Boat pens at Le Havre are also featured, as is a 22, 000lb 'Grand Slam' strike against a viaduct in the Ruhr and a look at the secret practice runs for the Dambusters raid. |
