| This two-disc set presents the first two series of BBC2's 21st-Century Bach, The Complete Organ Works, played by John Scott Whiteley, Organist at York Minster.
Series 1 was recorded on authentic Baroque instruments that were either played or inspected by J.S. Bach. The Silbermann organ at the cathedral of Freiberg is heard in the "Great" Fantasia and fugue in C Minor, and at the Wenzelkirche, Naumburg, both the Prelude and "Wedge" fugue in E Minor and the "Great" Prelude and fugue in G Major are performed. The restored instrument at Arnstadt, where Bach held his first organist's post, can be heard in some miniature Christmas pieces from the Orgel-Buchlein, and also included is the famous Toccata and fugue in D Minor. |
