| When a doctor at a woman's health centre is murdered, anti-abortion group is the prime suspect.
DCI Burke and his team investigate, focusing on the group's leaders, Audrey Edwards and the maniacally committed Tony Cunningham. However, they convincingly protest their innocence, maintaining that they are being framed.
Suspicion then falls on the doctor's ex-boyfriend, Billy Dunn, and his trail leads Burke into an unexpected web of drugs and blackmail. Suddenly the anti-abortionists look less like murderers.
DC Fraser has been assigned to guard the other health centre doctors and when Dr Pamela Gardner is murdered, Fraser is distraught and sent home on leave. Nevertheless, guilt pushes him to work coverlet alongside the main investigation. However, is this combined effort enough to stop the killer?
