| When Billy McCree is found murdered in his workshop, newly released prisoner Jim Naysmith is the prime suspect. McCree had given evidence against Naysmith twenty years before - a testimony that put the hardened Glasgow criminal behind bars. However, Naysmith has a water-tight alibi.
DCI Burke widens the search and tracks down another member of Naysmith's gang, Neil Mosby. And DI Ross and DS Reid discover McCree had a mistress, Sadie Grearson - forensic evidence places her at the scene of the murder.
Law student, Mary Cullen, also becomes a suspect when she manoeuvres herself into shadowing the investigation.
When Naysmith's sidekick, Mosby is found murdered, the pieces of the jigsaw begin to fall into place and the team move in to catch the killer.
