| 2008 is the 25th anniversary of Taggart, Britain's longest running TV drama. Taggart Through The Years is a unique six DVD collection which features a series of pivotal episodes from the show's history. Mark McManus played the original character DCI Jim Taggart, the taciturn Glasgow detective, to be succeeded in the lead role after his untimely death by James McPherson as DI Jardine. The McManus and McPherson eras saw the introduction of the core Taggart team which included Blythe Duff as Jackie Reid, Colin McCredie as Stuart Fraser and John Michie as Robbie Ross. Alex Norton inherited the Taggart legacy in 2002 as DCI Matt Burke, and the team carried the torch through a new series of thrilling murder mysteries, packed full of twists and turns and set against a Glasgow backdrop in the inevitable race against time.
Episodes featured:
- Knife Edge (1986): Featuring the original Taggart team. Severed limbs are found around the city. It seems a killer is disposing of their victim piece by piece. Alex Norton appears - as a suspect!
- Death Comes Softly (1980): Featuring Jim Taggart and Michael Jardine. One of the most popular episodes in which WPC Jackie Reid makes her first appearance in the series.
- Angel Eyes (1996): An episode which deals with prejudice towards the gay community. DI Jardine must put aside his own feelings to hunt the killer, and DC Fraser must confide in his colleagues.
- A Few Bad Men (1998): A horse racing scam and the murder of a soldier at a Glasgow barracks trigger dual investigations. And a new face joins the team - DI Robbie Ross.
- Penthouse And Pavement (2003): A famous novelist comes a cropper during a dalliance with a prostitute. Featuring Lesley Harcourt's first appearance as forensic officer, Gemma Kerr.
- Pinnacle (2007): One of the most recent episodes. A charismatic businesswoman is found murdered and Jackie's sympathy for the main suspect threatens the entire case. |
