| Disc One - Austerlitz 1805: As the famous sun of Austerlitz rose through the pale mist on the morning of December 2nd 1805, the stage was set for one of the most decisive battle of the Napoleonic era. By evening, the combined armies of Austria and Russia would be utterly destroyed. It was to be Napoleon's greatest victory, achieved by a commander at the very peak of his powers. This stunning DVD features dramatised reconstructions and 'eye-witness' accounts, plus Russian archive film footage from Bondarchuk's masterpiece 'War and Peace'. With 3D graphic mapping techniques and delightful period imagery, 'Austerlitz 1805' is a memorable account of a bloody battle which had a profound effect on the course of European history.
Disc Two - Napoleon 1812: It was to be Napoleon Bonaparte's greatest adventure; an invasion of Russia with an army of more than 650,000 men, the largest the world had yet seen. The Emperor's irresistible progress into the vast Russian interior saw many brutal conflicts including the Battle of Borodino, one of the bloodiest day's fighting in military history. Napoleon would not be defeated in battle but by Russian guile and the savages of winter snows. To this day the infamous retreat from Moscow epitomises the suffering of ordinary soldiers. This DVD is a powerful record of one of history's greatest military disasters, and features period imagery, dramatised "eye-witness" accounts, expert analysis, and extensive footage from the Oscar-winning Russian film "War and Peace".
Disc Three - the Battle of Waterloo 1815: It was a battle which would change the face of Europe forever. A day of savage fighting which destroyed the dreams of Napoleon and freed the Continent from the threat of his vaulting ambitions. Yet it could all have been so different, for the outcome of the great battle was determined by a handful of fateful decisions and desperate actions. This spectacular DVD tells the story of the final thunderous encounter of the Napoleonic era. Featuring stunning excerpts from major feature films, specially-filmed authentic reconstructions and re-enactments, and dramatised "eye-witness" accounts, "The Battle of Waterloo 1815" provides a unique record of one of the turning points in world history. |
